Repairing Locomotive Glass

Removing scratches fromm locomotive glass

When the windscreen glass on this refurbished locomotive was damaged by accidental scratching, our member was asked to find a solution to repair it.

As this locomotive was due to leave the workshops within two days, replacing the glass was not an option as a replacement would not have been sourced in time.

As this scratch damage was central to the drivers immediate viewing area, these repairs had to be perfect.

Our member recieved the call on Friday afternoon and had a glass polisher on site for 8am the following morning.

Cleaning Scratched Glass Repair

Cleaning Scratched Glass Repair

When the glass around this bespoke glass staircase was damage by careless cleaning, our members were called to assess the damage and quote for its repair.

Caused by using a scraper incorrectly to remove paint and varnish overspray, the glass was scratched on both sides.

Unlike other staircase glass we have repaired, these balustrade units on this staircase were not difficult or expensive to replace as they were individually mounted.  However, the lead-time for replacements to be manufactured, processed and delivered to site was 8 weeks and the project handover date was before this time.

Repairing Lion Scratches

Lion Scratches!!!

When the nice people from Whipsnade Zoo rang us about restoring the glass of their lion enclosure, we were alittle taken back.

The majority of the scratch damage had been caused by the lions licking and pawing the glass.  Apparently a lions toungue is incredibly rough and can scratch the glass when they lick it.  We decided to take the lion keepers word for this.  It is not something we feel the need to check for ourselves.

After a little negotiation, the keepers agreed to put the lions away for a bit while we worked, but apparently the Whipsnade guys have a sense of humour and refused to tell us just how long ‘a bit’ actually is!  We finished ahead of time.

Glass Balustrade

Repairing Cleaning Scratches

During the refurbishment of this office building, the glass balustrade on two staircases required restoration. Years of cleaning had taken their toll and most of the panels had various scratches on both sides, making the glass look unsightly.

The glass balustrade would have been difficult to replace, as one piece handrails would need to have been removed and then refitted again afterwards, which is no easy task.

We placed a team of four technicians on this contract, which we completed in five days. The glass was restored to its original condition and our client was exceptionally pleased with the results and the savings made against the replacement costs

Our Guild member completed the repairs to this vehicle in less than an hour, ensuring that no sign of the original damage or the resulting repair were visible.  The client was extremely happy and has since refered our services to his collegues.

Accidential Scratches

Repairing Accidental Scratches

When the bespoke glass sunroof on this prototype pre-production car was damaged by accidental scratch damage, one of our members was asked to provide a solution.

As this car was a prototype, replacement glass would have to have been produced to order and would have been very expensive and time consuming.  The high standard and attention to detail of this vehicle meant that any repair had to be truely invisible.

At this stage, we are not allowed to tell you what this car is or who it was made for as the whole project is very hush, hush.
