Removing Cleaning Scratches

The damage was widespread, affecting much of the partition glass throughout and on all floors.

Outcome

Our Guild member completed the repairs to the glass throughout the development in 12 days, making sure that the client was completely satisfied with the quality of the work undertaken.

Repairing Scraper Scratches

Scraper Scratches

When the window in this prestigous London penthouse appartment were damaged by careless cleaning, our members were called to assess the damage and quote for its repair.

Caused by the misude of metal edged cleaning tools to remove plaster and paint overspray from the surface of the glass, the scratching was very visible, especially in the sunlight.

The cleaning contractors were devasted that on of their operatives had made such a mistake and asked for the repairs to be carried out as quickly and quietly as possible.  Our members attended site and repaired the glass before anyone knew the glass had ever been damaged, restorng the glass to its original condition.

Restoring Balustade Glass

Removing cleaning scratches from balustrade glass

The glass balustrade across four floors of attrium and stairwell was badly damaged by cleaning scratches during the final builders clean after the development of this head office building.

Caused by using a scraper incorrectly to remove paint and plaster from the glass, the scratch damage was present on both sides of the glass.

This stairwell has a single piece handrail bonded to the top of the balustrade making replacement of individual units very difficult.  The problem was further compounded by the balustrade panels being bonded into a recess at the bottom.

As the building had already been handed over and was occupied, our members had to work out of hours to complete the works.

Repairing Locomotive Glass

Removing scratches fromm locomotive glass

When the windscreen glass on this refurbished locomotive was damaged by accidental scratching, our member was asked to find a solution to repair it.

As this locomotive was due to leave the workshops within two days, replacing the glass was not an option as a replacement would not have been sourced in time.

As this scratch damage was central to the drivers immediate viewing area, these repairs had to be perfect.

Our member recieved the call on Friday afternoon and had a glass polisher on site for 8am the following morning.

Olympic Glass Polishers

Cleaning Scratch Repair

This huge Olympic Viallage development was plagued by cleaning scratches throughout the entire development, caused by careless cleaning.  Almost every appartment required extensive works to restore the glazing to its original condition.

This was certainly the largest glass polising project undertaken in the U.K with upto 12 glass polishers from differing glass polishing companies, working 5/6 days a week over 5 months.

These works were undertaken after the Olympics during the refurbishment phase, converting the athletes accomodations into quality residential apartments.

Grinder Spatter Removal

Removing grinder spatter from glass

This new build development suffered grinder spatter damage during the metal works around the glazing frames.

The spatter damage was widespread and deep, meaning that much of the damaged surafces needed to be completely resurfaces.  Mobile Elevated Platforms (M.E.W.P.S) were required to carry out this contract, which our members are trained to operate.

To replace these glazed unit would have requied the rehiring of heavy lifting equipment to move the glass into place, adding to the replacement cost.

Cleaning Scratched Glass Repair

Cleaning Scratched Glass Repair

When the glass around this bespoke glass staircase was damage by careless cleaning, our members were called to assess the damage and quote for its repair.

Caused by using a scraper incorrectly to remove paint and varnish overspray, the glass was scratched on both sides.

Unlike other staircase glass we have repaired, these balustrade units on this staircase were not difficult or expensive to replace as they were individually mounted.  However, the lead-time for replacements to be manufactured, processed and delivered to site was 8 weeks and the project handover date was before this time.

removing Sandpaper Scratches

Sandpaper scratches on glass

This new build development suffered sandpaper scratches while decorators rubbed down the timber frames of the windows prior to decorating.

To remove the scratches completely, achieving invisible repairs, we had to deglaze the glass by removing the exterior trim caps.  This allowed us to lay the glass flat over tressels and polish over the edge of the glass.

This is the only way to remove sandpaper scratches properly, ensuring that no distortions, haze of clouding remained after polishing.

Repairing Lion Scratches

Lion Scratches!!!

When the nice people from Whipsnade Zoo rang us about restoring the glass of their lion enclosure, we were alittle taken back.

The majority of the scratch damage had been caused by the lions licking and pawing the glass.  Apparently a lions toungue is incredibly rough and can scratch the glass when they lick it.  We decided to take the lion keepers word for this.  It is not something we feel the need to check for ourselves.

After a little negotiation, the keepers agreed to put the lions away for a bit while we worked, but apparently the Whipsnade guys have a sense of humour and refused to tell us just how long ‘a bit’ actually is!  We finished ahead of time.
